Chubushnik (Philadelphus) - generic name of plants from the family of saxifrage (Saxifragaceae). These are shrubs, with opposite, whole-edged or jagged leaves, with white flowers collected in a brush. Flower from 4-5-6-lobed calyx, 4-5-6 petals, 20-40 stamens and one pistil, with 4-3-5-nest ovary; fruit box. Some species are bred in gardens, like ornamental plants ("wild jasmine"); are as follows: Ph. grandiflorus Willd. native to South America, Ph. Gordonianus Lindl. from North America, Ph. coronarius L., the most common species, wildly growing in southern Europe, the Caucasus, China and Japan. It is often called wild jasmine because of its sweetish smell. And outwardly the flowers are similar.
