Squirrels appeared at the old cemetery relatively recently. They literally migrated from afar, from the forest next to the cemetery.
Previously, before 2016, they lived in a forest area dominated by coniferous trees, and apparently due to their reproduction and a lack of food for everyone, they were forced to look for new feeding areas.
The cemetery is plentiful for them. There are berry bushes, mushrooms, and many seed-bearing shrubs and trees (though there's a lot of competition from the birds). There are bird feeders that are constantly replenished (including by me), and various candies and cookies left by people visiting the graves.
