Manhattan has sections of midtown dedicated to one type of product. So you will find several blocks in a row of perfume retail and wholesale. Leather coat shops, and in this case bulk fabric wholesale and retail. With a shop selling just thread.

At some point the MTA decided to try and pretty up the horrendously gross and oppressive subway system with some art installs. In some places, the 8th ave/14th st Subway hub it's a bunch of mirthful brass figures. In this Brooklyn station it takes the form of creepy eyes staring out from inside the wall.
