Dear steemit friends,
This post is the continuation of this one..
Traveling through the Scenic Georgian Military Highway, Georgia(Country not US state)
We finally arrived to Stepantsminda which is the town below the Mt Kazbegi . But it is also referred to as Kazbegi, you can find accommodation options in here as Kazebegi is the most visited places in Georgia.
The famous church that we wanted to see or the famous postcard photo was located high up on a mountain . You can also hike up to the top but that would take hours. Our guide got us a jeep and we payed about $5 per person or may be less.
Our driver of 4×4 was a local and everyone was pretty excited. The drive was on a very tight narrow path(one side to the drop end) and started to incline up to the mountains.
I didn't have any photos from the drive but it was literally the bumpiest drive I have ever been. I meant I have been on some worst road in my own country . But the driver seemed quite normal for him, getting his drink now and then. The road become bumpier and bumpier and sometimes occasionally need to move backwards as there were are also cars coming down from the top. It was terrifying , but I told to myself at least I am not alone..
We finally made it to the car park area to visit The Gergeti Trinity Church. It is one of the most well-known church in Georgia and situated under Mt Kazbegi ( elevation = 2170 meters).
Our guide told us we could stay 30 min only in here as the driver had to return back to get another group of visitors. So me and Finnish friend decided to go further to get a view of the church instead of walking up to the main church.
The church was built in the 14th century (also other churches in Georgia are)and due to its isolation in the steep mountainous area. It is such an iconic place of the whole of Georgia.
My finnish friend, although we didn't get to visit the church due to time constraint , we are very happy to be surrounded by such incredible nature.
The weather was extremely windy and since I was running here and there in a higher altitude, I started to get headache and dizziness.
We had a look around and took in the incredible views and go the view of the town Stepantsminda.
It was sad to leave . But we had to head back in our 4×4 for another bumpy and steep journey back down to the town.
We arrived to the town at the base and had our lunch.
I had this famous drink and some Khinkali ( which is basically dumpling )
Overall, it was a great day out from Tiblisi and also the highlight of my Georgia trip.
