I really like aviation photography but not to the point of "nerdism" and have a few good friends in the discipline, but who are thankfully of the same mind. Living in what is known as "Bomber County" I love seeing old aircraft like the Lancaster, Dakota, Spitfire and Hurricane. But also newer jets like the Typhoons based at Coningsby and the Red Arrows, currently based at Scampton.
Growing up in Lincoln we used to have the much missed Vulcan flying over constantly. Sadly there are none currently flying. The same as one of my favourite aircraft, the Tornado. What a beautiful aircraft that was.
But much as I like the jets, nothing beats the sound of those Merlin engines. The sound still manages to send shivers down my spine.
