One of the first lessons I remember when I started learning photography was to turn around to make sure you're not missing something.
We had pulled off the road to join a group of photographers and spotting scopes who were looking and pointing at the top of a hill. When I got out and asked what and where, the guy said that some last thought she spotted a wolf across the valley. Everybody was just kinda standing around not taking photos so we decided to leave. Not 20 seconds later a car in front of us was at a dead stop pointing it his window, we crept up to his car and immediately saw a wolf trotting along the side of the road, maybe 20 yards off the road. I was in the passenger seat and the wolf was on the driver side so I had to shoot through my brothers window.
The wolf stopped and posed for a moment to allow us to get some photos. All the while everyone back up on the hill was mostly unaware of the wolf behind them.
After a minute or two the wolf headed up the mountainside out of sight. What a memorable experience.
