San Francisco from Above
DJI Mavic Pro, 26mm, 1/25sec, f/2.2, ISO 161 [3992x2992]
I tested out my DJI Mavic drone in downtown San Francisco this morning to see how it would do. It went great, the range difference between this and my Phantom 3 is night and day. With the Phantom these photos would not have been possible. There is so much radio interference downtown that the Phantom was pretty much limited to flying straight up a few hundred feet and snapping a couple shots then landing. As soon as I went higher or tried to fly away from where I was it would loose signal from the interference. With the Mavic I was flying well over 4k feet away without any signal issues. I ended up having to turn back due to battery considerations. If this drone can stay in range when flying around a downtown urban environment then its going to be hard to fly out range with it anywhere.
I regret shooting in automatic mode this morning as I believe the above image is a bit out of focus due to the 1/25th shutter speed it decided to use while hovering in gusty winds. I was having decent luck with it choosing good settings at first and it can be tedious having to constantly adjust camera settings while flying around, but this was a good example of why it pays to get in the habit of manually adjusting for every shot you take.
