There are lots of cities that don't shut down. For example, they say NYC is the city that never sleeps...but I'd like to say Japan is the country that never sleeps. In the big centers it feels to me like they're is always something going on, someone going somewhere, whole subcultures doing interesting things.
Like I said in the first series, I don't usually shoot at night - so this was a bit of an experiment. I was looking for interesting glows and moments I wouldn't otherwise find interesting. Night adds a certain something that a day shot in the same scenario would look terrible. Every street and little alleyway had interesting things for me to point my camera at.
I now want to try the same thing at home...and I'd better hurry as the daylight is already starting to get longer. Soon it'll be almost 11pm before it gets dark. Great for beers on the stoop, terrible for night photography.
It's fun reliving the trip. I hope you don't mind me living the trip again. These shots are taken in Kyoto, Tokyo and Osaka. All incredible cities each with a completely different sort of feel. I was really lucky that every night was rain free...that said it might have added a few interesting reflections.
Enjoy.
