Hesitantly they entered the canyon. Walking along the canyon floor they encountered the first of the stone temples. It was clear that the structures were thousands of years old. Whatever civilization built them wanted to be recognized by history.
They stood in awe.
"I'm not saying it was aliens. But it was aliens." One of the party joked.
Once past the first temple, they found a walkway that looked to wind its way along the side of the canyon. It looked well maintained, which meant someone was still here. Yet nothing else betrayed their presence, and they had seen no other sign of activity.
They decided to press on.
It was a mistake.
