Trzeba zawsze być pijanym. W tym jest wszystko: i jedyny problem. Aby nie czuć straszliwego ciężaru Czasu, który zgina wam ramiona i pochyla ku ziemi, trzeba wam upijać się bez przerwy.
Ale czym? Winem, poezją lub cnotą, jak wam się podoba. Lecz upijajcie się.
A jeśli na schodach pałacu, wśród zielonej trawy rowu, w ponurej samotności pokoju, zbudzicie się mniej pijani lub trzeźwi, zapytajcie wiatru, fali, gwiazdy, ptaka, zegara, wszystkiego, co umyka, wszystkiego, co się żali, wszystkiego, co się toczy, wszystkiego, co śpiewa, wszystkiego, co mówi, zapytajcie jaka to godzina; a wiatr, fala, gwiazda, ptak, zegar, odpowiedzą wam: „To godzina pijaństwa! Aby nie być udręczonymi niewolnikami Czasu, upijajcie się, upijajcie się bez przerwy!
