It has been two months since I got my iPhone 13 Pro Max and I'm absolutely enjoying it. Aside from the much bigger screen (from my previous phone) and a very much improved battery life (even if I use it for the whole day I would still have 30-40% left by night no kidding), the biggest upgrade that I could really notice and enjoy is the camera.
I took some shots using the different camera and software features in the span of like 2 months (just cos I forgot to post about it LOL). I want these shots to be like from a "normal user" point of view and not like a professional-photographer-with-lights-and-everything setup so you'll be able to see how they look like in a natural state. Most of them are unedited too.
Macro mode
The very first feature that I tried was the macro mode.
Yeah yeah they already have this on android phones like years ago but I didn't so I was excited to try it for the first time :P
The moment I got to turn the camera on, I immediately tried it on my eye that was hit directly by the sun. :D
Well, I couldn't see what I was aiming at or if it was even focused right but it went fine. I was really amazed by how close I got and still was able to get the details lol.
The camera was already disgustingly close to my eye but I think I can get a tiny bit closer than that based on some other reviews I've seen. Eew you can even see a sweat there below lol.
For these eye photos, I adjusted the brightness and shadows so just really a tiny amount of editing.
For the next photos, I took them during a morning walk. I was directly under the harsh sunlight so it was kinda hard to see the screen at the same time have to limit my time to prevent overheating but here are the photos. They aren't edited, so what you see is what the camera captured without alteration.
This was from a tree and I was already pretty close to it. I was hoping I'd capture the ants but I couldn't cos they were too fast haha.
It gave a really nice blurred background here but the foreground wasn't that nice mainly because the sun was harsh so it was kinda having a hard time balancing it off. This was taken using ProRAW tho but I don't wanna edit it cos I wanna show the unedited stuff haha.
You know how smol this was?
Boink lol.
I wonder how they'll look like under a less harsher sun and/or a studio light perhaps. Dunno how to set that up haha but I had fun with the macro mode. There were so many things I saw that I haven't seen in my normal zoomed-out eyes. :p
Portrait mode
The portrait mode works well on pets!
As you can see the whole face is focused and everything else is blurred out since ya know, Ethan's head is closer to the camera than the rest of his body. XD Seem a bit weird but the good thing about this is I can adjust the depth of field even after taking the shot.
The AI still isn't perfect so you can see there's just a little bit of harsh transition of blurring on top of his head. Still really good overall though.
I have no model, so I'll just use this face for the meantime :P
It kinda struggles with my hair though, the blurry effect where awkward on some parts.
Sometimes there will be awkward blurs but most of the time it's okay. This one is still portrait mode f2.8 but edited with the mono filter on iPhone. Gives me DSLR vibes tbh.
This was taken on the Portrait mode of the front camera. Yeah I don't expect big on the front cam but still good enough with the blur, but not near as good as the main camera (duh) lol.
Night/blackout shots
We had a blackout this one night so I had the opportunity to take photos of the night sky and the stars. There was probably just 3% light in my surroundings lol and the only source of light there was the moonlight and my room light which was connected to the laptop.
This was at literally 3am hahah but it made it look like it was some 6pm or something. My hand was kinda shaky and I had to be still for 3 seconds. :D
That looks like some type of constellation but I don't recognize it sorry. XD
And yeah that's my magenta room.
These are actually really impressive for a phone. Those were blurry because I was only holding it and my hands were shaky :P But I could definitely set it up on a tripod if I want to. I was just too lazy so nevermind. :D
Cinematic mode
Of course nobody can forget the cinematic mode. It's like a portrait mode but only in video. This one was taken during an afternoon walk and he was smelling some random shit and I think that was actually the septic tank's cover??? lol
I really enjoy cinematic mode because I can adjust the depth of field and the subject focus after the video was taken so it was a nice thing to have. It wasn't as powerful or accurate as the portrait mode for some reason tho. I really like how I could play with it and make it look nice with a blurry background without having to bring my camera for it. :D
The color, exposure, etc. was edited.
Slow motion
Here is Ethan licking his nose and also taking mucus along with it while he was wearing the cone of shame (cone of safety actually). This was after his supposed neutering but didn't happen and just had to stitch his wound cos they didn't find his balls. Aw.
Totally impressed with the slow motion and this is the best that I have so far. :p
Anyway, that was everything so far. I want to take some serious photography portraits or whatever soon when I have the energy to do so. :P But note that I'm not a professional photographer haha so you won't be able to see a pro set up.
