Fujifilm X-T2 with the Kit Zoom Lens Mini Review
I'll post a more in-depth review of this camera and the couple of lens I have for it soon, in the meantime, here are some initial thoughts.
I've found the 18-55mm f2.8-4 "kit" lens much better than any other "kit" lens I've used before. It's has a faster than average aperture than most kit zooms, it has a metal construction, and optical image stabilisation, all built together with Fujinon's excellent optical glass to make it a fantastic lens.
And while I didn't really want an average length zoom with this camera, the relatively small extra price on top of the price of the body, and the appeal of an average zoom for my wife to use, I decided it was worth splashing out for.

I think a camera like this really comes into it's own when used with the lightweight, superior optics of Fujifilm Fujinon's prime lenses. I've bought the 27mm f2.8 "pancake" lens as my first Fuji prime. It may not be the sharpest in the lineup, but it is by far the lightest! Weighing in at just 78grams (2.75 oz), and measuring just 61.2 mm in diameter by 23 mm in length, you don't even notice it's on the camera (which only weights 500grams itself).
Before I bought this camera, my main priorities in choosing were:
- Great quality photos
- Lightweight
- Rugged/durable construction (of both camera body and lenses)
- Decent range of lenses available
I've been using Canon SLR cameras and lenses since before DSLRs were available. I love my Canon gear, but the lenses and cameras are big and heavy. I have a wrist injury, so I found carrying a heavy camera/lenses around all day was a struggle. I'd tried a few compact zooms out over the last few years, and while they are light, the image quality leaves a lot to be desired. And while I don't really want to have to shell out for a new set of lenses, I've decided that the size/weight/image quality of the Fuji X series fit the bill.
I did consider the Sony mirrorless system, and the Olympus system, but the manual controls and image quality of the X-T2 won out.
Again, I'll post a more in-depth review in the coming days, when I have some time to take more photos and finish writing it up.
Again, shot last Saturday while looking for entries for this weeks SteemitPhotoChallenge
