I can't wait for winter to be over so we can go do some more water sports. Friends of ours own property on the Vaal River, it's the perfect get away on a warm summer's day. In all honesty this winter hasn't been that cold and I have felt tempted to take a dive, but I made that mistake once before in my life, and vowed never to put myself through something like that again.
It was early spring in September when we visited family who had a pool, me being young and foolish wanted to swim as it was a warm day, but the pool was covered with a net to protect animals or children from drowning should they fall into the pool. My cousin warned me that if he removes the net I will swim as it's quite the tedious task to remove.
In hindsight I should have touched the water first to test but needless to say, I took a dive and for a moment everything stopped, including my heart! It was so cold I couldn't really move, I felt like just giving up all attempts to swim and just drown. Every single muscle in my body tensed. So swimming in cold water is out.
I would describe tubing in somewhat the same way as bull riding, the one who stays on the longest is the champion.
In a zigzag motion the skipper tries to through you from the tube as your velocity increases from the pendulum motion and crossing the wake will give you some serious air time.
And in the end if you lose balance or grip well you meet the water at very interesting speeds that knock the wind right out of you.
