I have finally returned to work as lockdown eases here in the UK. Hurrah! 🙌🏻
It feels so good to be back in the studio, and my very first shoot back was with my wonderful friend Miranda Lovegood. I've been wanting to add a Bettie Page themed photoshoot package to my shop for a while now and Miranda very kindly agreed to model for the promo shots.
For those of you who haven't come across Bettie Page before, she was known as the Queen of Pinups in the 1950s. Her somewhat risqué and fetish style images are just as iconic now as they were 70 years ago. With her jet black hair and short fringe (bangs) her style as inspired the likes of modern day pinup Dita Von Teese and even Beyoncé emulated her in her music video "Why Don't You Love Me".
The Bettie Page look is a very popular look amongst the modern day pinup and Rockabilly community.
For our photoshoot Miranda already had all of the lingerie we needed, including the props! -a riding crop and spanking paddle! I had purchased a Bettie Page style wig a few years back. As Miranda is a redhead we opted for the wig to go all out Bettie!
We shot at my studio in Gloucestershire, using both my plain black backdrop and my vintage room set for some more atmospheric shots.
I used a beauty dish with grid, and a couple of reflector dishes, with different sized grid attachments. I always direct my models with posing, as I work with everyday women rather than professional models, especially as we were aiming to create a particular style with this shoot. Bettie's poses were very strong and are quite recognisable even today.
Miranda did a great job following direction, and I think we created some really wonderful images together.
Post processing was pretty straightforward. Consisting of the usual background tidy ups on the plain backdrop shots, skin retouching, and a few tweaks with lighting and colour to really make them pop.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I hope you enjoy the final images.
As always all images are my own.
If you have any questions at all, please do ask and I shall do my very best to answer if I can.
I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things now I'm able to be back in the studio. Hopefully as the lockdown here continues to ease, I shall see more and more ladies popping in for a photoshoot to help pick themselves back up again 💕
