As I have said, many times before, one of the great things about California, is that a mere drive away, one can find any number of differing climates, enviornments, or terrains that might suit one's fancy. You can spend the day skiing up in the mountains, then come down for a night at the beach. You can go out dirt biking in the desert, and then see the splendor of our forests. On a whim, I just decided to do a little L.A. walking and headed to one of our many great spots to go, on a date night, with the kids, or just to walk the beach. The Santa Monica Pier.
The famous sign, as seen in many movies, tv shows, and the like.
The view of the pier from the beach. I know I need a better camera. My phone just doesn't cut it, sometimes.
And yes, the pier marks the end of the famous Route 66. While the famous route built in 1926 no longer officially exists, a great deal of it still remains, and is driven by enthusiastic road trippers, and motorcyclists alike.
In case you're wondering, yes. Yes, that is a ferris wheel, and a rollercoaster, on the pier. There are many other, fair type, rides on it, as well, but none of them photographed as well. They also have the whole host of carnival games, an arcade, eateries and just about anything else you would find at a local carnival.
Including the magical Zoltar. "I wish I were BIG!"
lol. I'm sorry. I know this pic doesn't quite go with the flow, and isn't even that great. But it was one of my favorite movies, growing up, and so I can't really resist a pic of it.
Just a share of my night, as I walked the pier. I'm hoping to get a better camera, soon. My pictures don't really do the pier justice at night. If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, it is definitely worth your time to at least stop by, and check it out. It's a beautiful walk, if nothing else.
