Straight out of a christmas movie, right?
It's hard to realize that we are standing in the unmissable spot for the holiday season. The decorations are gorgeous and oversized just like this wonderful 72 foot tall christmas tree overlooking the ice rink.
Every year, new yorkers gather on the plaza for the christmas tree lightening ceremony which is a world wide symbol for holidays.
The tradition started on december 1931 when the workers of the Rockfeller center construction site put their money in common to buy a christmas tree and decorated it. On christmas eve they were lining up next to the tree to collect their paycheck.
Few years later in 1936, the skating rink was opened.
This year the tree is topped with a Swarovski star that includes 3 million crystals and 70 spikes.
