I told you guys last time of a machine I saw in front of a welder's,
well this was the proposed rice farm for it, now it's full of corn 🌽, this land stretches far more than what you're seeing, it cover more than 10 hectares, purposely for rice plantation, they are still using the old time method of fanning and beating the rice to remove the husk, you need to be there to see this, it's too tedious to do, in parboiling it they have to take it to another factory which will cost them some amount of money, to buttress it all when its ready the middle-man comes to the farm ready to buy at a ridiculous price, the farmer becomes poorer by the day, the reason why there is increase in farmer's suicide and depression all across the nation.
With fake propaganda of schemes, loans and grants by the government which never get to the user, farmers are also getting together to help themselves in forming cooperatives, sharing knowledge with each other, setting up stores themselves, thereby reducing the cost of the middle man, still, a lot still need to be done in agribusiness(The Business of Agriculture) in Nigeria.
While there are now precision farming in many developed nations, use of app and drones to tackle one or two challenge, some of this technology are still far beyond the reach of the rural farmers.
Thanks to aids from USAID, UNICEF, WHO, and many more foundations who are taking it up upon themselves to make sure the agricultural productivity of Africa is boosted to an impressive level, grants and various entrepreneurship programs also help to facilitate this positive output too.
The challenges on ground is how we can infuse our indigenous knowledge into farming.
