I wanted to share some photos I took of City Hall in Pasadena, California.
The United States of America, and California in particular, is relatively young in terms of settlements. The first settlers came around 250 years ago, so there is not nearly the history and old architecture that exists in the Europe, the Middle East or other places where settlements have long existed.
It is due to this lack of history, that I am drawn to places in California that actually do have some historic significant. Pasadena City Hall is one of those places.
As you can tell from the photographs above, the architecture is fantastic and has a heavy Spanish Colonial style to it, as well as some Mediterranean. It was built in 1927 at a cost of $1.3 Million, which was a small fortune during that time. In researching online, there are more than 235 rooms and passageways that are over 150,000 square feet of space inside the building. There is a courtyard in the center and a tall dome, which rises over six stories tall.
Given its proximity to the entertainment capital of the World, Hollywood, CA, Pasadena City Hall has been involved in a number of movies and TV shows, the most famous of which might be Pawnee City Hall in the hit series, Parks and Recreation, with stars Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt and Rob Lowe. Personally, I am big fan of Ron Swanson, played by Nick Offerman – a man’s hero for sure.
Wedding photographers love Pasadena City Hall as well, and it seems no matter when you go, you will accidentally photo bomb somebody getting pictures taken in their wedding dress.
I appreciate you stopping by, and hope you enjoyed the photographs!
