The view through the wrought iron gates of Gramercy Park
Many New Yorkers know about the secret clubs and parks but tourists do not get a chance to enjoy them. This is a picture of Gramercy Park, which is a very private park near Union Square. If you live in one of the surrounding buildings you can get a key to gain access.
I'm playing with a dutch angle here. This is one of the surrounding buildings.
I met an old friend for drinks last night at the Players Club, which is a private club originally started by the famous Booth family. Edwin Booth was a famous Shakespearean actor and toured America playing various roles. His brother, John Wilkes Booth, is unfortunately more famous in the modern era.
John killed president Abraham Lincoln.
The Players Club founded in 1888. Next door is the National Arts Club
In a throwback to the past those lanterns actually light up using gas at night and throw a lovely warm glow onto the sidewalk out front.
