The gayo highland is famous for its enjoyment of arabica coffee and natural beauty. It also stores varies of uniqueness, one of then is depik fish.
Depik fish which is not bigger than anchovy is one of biodiversity living in Lut Tawar Lake, Takengon, Central Aceh. It is said that this fish only can be found in Lut Tawar Lake.
One morning, precisely in Kalang village, Takengon, Central Aceh, there are number of women cited depik fish which were caught by fishermen in the village.
Depik fish were caught by using nets (doran) in Gayo term, which is installed in the middle of the lake on afternoon until evening, and see the results at dawn in the next day. These fishes then sold through merchants and residents who live around the lake
Depik fish caught by fishermen using nets (doran) was sold at price of IDR 100.000 perbambu, while depik which were caught by using didisen (depik fish trap at the source of water into the Lut Tawar Lake) sold more expensive, because the physical of this fish were not damaged compared to the fish that were caught by net (doran).
The presence of depik fish became a tourist attraction and icon of lake in the central region of Aceh province.
