What started as an attempt to attract customers for Christmas shopping has grown into one of the biggest events of the year in Delft. In other cities it’s just a regular Tuesday night, but in Delft, one of the best parties of the year was today so called ‘Lichtjesavond’, or Evening of Lights. Streets are packed with all kinds of people wander through the streets where they can buy unique handmade arts and craft gifts at the traditional Christmas Market. They warm up besides one of the campfires with a gluhwein or a hot chocolate, while one of the choirs sings Christmas songs or a band plays. At 19:00, the mayor lights the candles of the huge Christmas tree at the market square where it all started back in 1998.
Every year I’m going to this event. Today I visited this event with my best friend. We walked through the streets, saw the beautiful lights and the huge Christmas tree. Delft is amazing to see, specially at this time of the year 🎄❄️
