After a cold and bitter night winter camping in the mountains, we awoke to a slowly changing light. The night before we had witnessed the chaotic and unrelenting waves of the Aurora. In the morning the light faded softly in from the twilight. A minuscule crescent moon ascended past the peaks and rested lightly overhead. The deep blues of night transformed into a deep purple and then a light pink. Orange rays ushered in the coming day. The silence of the alpine landscape was punctuated by lightly crackling embers from a long evening. With tired eyes we watched, a continuous morning gradient.
