So today I bring you part #2 of an EPIC walk that I took through Port Douglas in tropical Far North Queensland back in 2015 with one of my dearest friends Lisa and just incase you missed it, here's part #1. @chocolatescorpi/a-wonderful-wednesday-walk-in-pretty-port-douglas-with-one-of-my-oldest-friends-to-see-other-old-mates-part-1
And on this part of the walk, we take a stroll through the Port Douglas marina to look at all of the sexy (and not so sexy) boats moored at there...
And here's a classic Australian track called ***The Sounds of Australia ***by famous Australian band called Gangajang to walk to, And I really think that this song should be the Australian National Anthem and it fits this tour perfectly....
Have fun!
As you can see, there are a lot of people willing to take you out sailing, snorkeling and scuba diving for a day, a week, even a month- if you have the moula to do so...
There are a range of size and styles of boats to suit your fancy
From small to large cabin cruisers right down to the small BBQ pontoon boats
fishing trawlers and sailboats and everything in between
The Marina is also a hugely popular spot for tourists and local alike, with some great restaurants, shopping and there even used to be a nightclub upstairs that I used to frequent with my work mates after a hard night or making cocktails, it was nice to have someone else make them for me..
This is the view of the Marina up in the distance up the Dickson Inlet from the Port Douglas Sugar Wharf which is right next to the Port Douglas Markets, and if you'd like to check out the world famous markets in a bit more detail, then check out this post i created for the #MarketFriday community run by here @chocolatescorpi/market-friday-in-the-world-famous-port-douglas-markets
And this is the famous Balley Hooley Railway Station that transports tourists and locals alike around the geographically large town.
Bally Hooley consists of a collection of historic diesel and steam engine locomotives that have been refurbished and are now used as a way to see the sights of Port Douglas.
Port Douglas was established as a port in 1877 to service both the booming goldfields west of the Daintree range, and to support the growing agricultural district. Christie Palmerston, William Little and indigenous guide, Pompo, cleared a route, known as the Bump Track, from the Hodgkinson goldfield to Island Point, which would become the port. Port Douglas was quickly settled by merchants, with the establishment of government offices, banks, a courthouse and the lighthouse on Low Isles. https://www.ballyhooleyrail.com.au/about-bally-hooley
But the Bally Hooley isn't the only train about the area, as there are trains laden with Sugar Cane running up and down the coast from some of the largest cane growing farms
The Mossman network services the Mossman Mill and comprises 87 route kilometres, extending from near Port Douglas (20 km south of Mossman) to Rocky Point (13 km north of Mossman) and west to the edge of the Daintree National Park. On the Mossman network the company has a fleet of six locomotives and 600 bins. These bins have capacities of nine, 11 and 13 tonnes. https://www.railtram.com.au/sugar-cane-railways
So now which direction would you like to go in?
North to Mossman to see the magnificent Mossman Gorge, https://www.mossmangorge.com.au/
Back up to the delicious Daintree Rainforest @chocolatescorpi/an-epic-post-about-an-epic-area-of-truly-magnificent-and-magical-natural-medicine
Or would you like to head south to see the charming Cairns?
Well I'm afraid, the tour of Cairns will have to wait till next time I'm sorry....
Until then, thank you for reading and I hope that you enjoyed finding out about more of the history and of the many other things that Port Douglas has to offer in Part #2 and I hope that it all #makemesmile too!
