These little critters can easily be mistaken for a bee sucking nectar from this yellow daisy. This nice looking insect is a South African Hover Fly (Band-eyed Drone Fly).
They are important pollinators and do not sting or bite. Active little insects in the morning and early afternoon, especially during spring and summer seasons looking for nectar and pollen.
This photo shows the beautiful banded compound eyes.
Here you can see the transverse and floating veins (which ends nowhere) on the wings which radiate outwards.
