Since I live near this award-winning, stunning circular dormitory designed by Lundgaard & Trandberg Architects, I wanted to do a post about the Tietgen Students' Residence in Coepnahgen. These are images that I took on a couple of outings with my Nikon D700 and a Nikkor 24-85mm 3.5-4.5G ED lens. The last image, in which I am sitting on a chair, I got using the timer and my tripod.
This place is home to about 400 students and the waiting list for a spot here is said to be really long (years). It has a really cool inner courtyard too that I will try to take some shots of too one of these days. It really is quite an interesting architectural concept and I can see the appeal of it aside from all the media hype.
According to Archdaily.com, the circular form of the building is a symbol of: "equality and the communal is contrasted with individual, projecting volumes expressing the individual residences. The principle inspiration for the project is this meeting of the collective and the individual, a characteristic inherent to the dormitory building type."
