With today's post, I would like to introduce you to the first day of a photographic trip that I made in early April to the Białowieża Forest to photograph wild bison.
According to the State Forests, there are currently approximately 1,900 wild bison in Poland and this number is still growing.
The European bison (Bos bonasus) is the largest land mammal in Europe. Its body weight in males is 700 kg on average, height is about 170 cm, and in females - on average 460 kg, height is about 150 cm.
In males, you can notice quite a large disproportion between the front and rear parts of the body, the front is wide, massive with a very distinct hump.
The basis of the bison's diet are herbaceous plants and grasses, they are found on the forest floor and clearings, as well as in meadows and arable fields.

Dzisiejszym postem chciałbym Wam przedstawić pierwszy dzień wyprawy fotograficznej jaką odbyłem na początku kwietnia do Puszczy Białowieskiej by sfotografować dziko żyjące żubry.
Według Lasów Państwowych obecnie w Polsce żyje ok. 1900 dzikich żubrów i ta liczba ciągle rośnie.
Żubr europejski (Bos bonasus) jest największym ssakiem lądowym w Europie. Jego masa ciała wynosi u samców – średnio 700 kg , wysokość ok 170 cm, a u samic – średnio 460 kg , wysokość ok 150 cm.
U Samców można zauważyć dość dużą dysproporcję pomiędzy przednią , a tylną częścią ciała, przód jest szeroki, masywny z w bardzo wyraźnym garbem.
Podstawą diety żubrów są rośliny zielne i trawy ,znajdują je na dnie lasu i na zrębach oraz na łąkach i polach uprawnych.
On my way to Poland, I was full of hope that I would meet wild bison and, fortunately for me, on the very first day when I left at sunrise to locate them, I saw a small herd that grazed quite close to the buildings.
Terribly excited, I unpacked my photo equipment and started taking pictures and filming of them at a considerable distance. After a few moments, cheerful that the bisons did not pay attention to me, I got closer and closer, until finally I was so close that the male let me know that I was crossing their safety zone.
Wyruszając do Polski bylem pełen nadziei, że spotkam dziko żyjące żubry i na moje szczęście już pierwszego dnia gdy wyruszyłem o wschodzie słońca by je zlokalizować z daleka dostrzegłem małe stado , które pasło się dość blisko zabudowań.
Strasznie podekscytowany wypakowałem sprzęt fotograficzny i w znacznej odległości zacząłem robić im zdjęcia i filmować. Po kilku chwilach rozochocony , że żubry nie zwracają na mnie uwagi przybliżałem się coraz bliżej i bliżej, aż w końcu byłem tak blisko , że samiec dał mi do zrozumienia , iż przekraczam ich strefę bezpieczeństwa.
So I took a few steps back and watched them slowly disappear into the nearby forest.
Wycofałem się więc o kilka kroków i obserwowałem jak powoli znikają w pobliskim lesie.
