I once got invited to a hunting trip. I never thought I would ever shoot a buck... for many reasons. But there's something spiritual and primal about hunting your own food.
What it really taught me was about opportunity. You hide out and wait for hours... and you literally have a few seconds during those hours to take your shot; when it's gone, it's gone. It's such a small window of opportunity, you don't really have time to think - it is like your subconscious takes over, and yields to a higher power.
