The Rochester-based company Kodak Tuesday announced that it will be launching its own digital licensing and cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency KodakCoin will be a photo-centric one "to empower photographers and agencies to take greater control in image rights management."
To create an encrypted, digital ledger of rights ownership for photographers to register both new and archive work that they can then license within the platform, Kodak is partnering with WENN Digital on the KODAKOne platform . Professional and amateur photographers will then be able to receive KodakCoin payments for selling and licensing their work beginning January 31.
Shares of Eastman Kodak Co. more than doubled to close at $6.80 Tuesday. The stock had been slumping over the last year, shedding more than 70 percent of its value.
I see this as one of the possible application areas where SMTs of STEEM blockchain will play a role to tokenise the content of photographers and at the same time reward the comsumers.
