Good day to all! First thing, I want to thank my followers who have brought me to the threshold of triple digits nine days after my first Steem post. In celebrating this, I wanted to introduce all my new friends to another companion of mine. Meet Skinky. Well, that's what I call him anyway; I don't know his true lizard name, if he has one. I call him that because he is a member of the Skink lizard family, either a Southeastern 5-lined or a Common 5-lined from what I can tell. Skinky makes his home in the small wooden structure which houses my garden in my patio area. Skinky I see just about every day as I spend as much of my time as possible outdoors, whether reading, writing, exercising, or browsing Steem on my phone. My friend has become pretty comfortable around him, seemingly not disturbed by my presence at all, and even letting me touch his back and tail a few times.
Skinky and his brother (or sister) spend most of their time stalking around flowers and eating several times their body weight in bugs (Goddess bless them). But lizards need to take a break sometimes too. My reptile friend loves to lay on the old wooden beams and soak in some Sun. Here is Skinky catching some rays on a beautiful Sunny summer day in Virginia. Notice how he tucks all his legs up onto his body so he can lay fully on his belly. I look at him and remember how important it is to take a break once in a while, from our work AND distractions, to simply absorb the energy of Nature around us for a little while. Isn't he cute?!
