A portrait of who I am

Yesterday I went into the studio to take an "environmental portrait" of myself. In an environmental portrait you want to capture an image that tells who the person is in the image.

So when I was planning this shot out, I wanted to have a camera to show the fact that I am a photographer. I also wanted to wear a shirt that reflects my military service. When it came to lighting, I wanted to light the scene in a dramatic way because my life has been somewhat dramatic, lol. I think it adds a sense of mystery and story to the photo that wouldn't be there if I had lit this straight on.

I hope that you like the image and think that it tells a little about me. It took a few tries to get everything framed up to take a picture of myself. It is always a little awkward waiting for the timer to go off.
