He looks as old as Peruvian civilization. This ancient breed dates back to 750 AD pre-Inca cultures. A few decades ago, these dogs were looked down upon (poor little things roaming the streets). Now, Peruvians just love them; thanks, to Italian-born breeder, Ermanno Maniero. So much so, that these dogs are now viewed as part of Peru’s national heritage.
If you want to take one home with you, outside of Peru, you need permission from the government...
This picture was taken at the Huaca Pucllana ruins (go figure ;) in Lima. Apparently, because they are hairless and defenseless against the elements, they need frequent application of moisturizer. ...This one likes to wear a t-shirt.
