In my first tips. i mentioned about this.
1/200s f/11 ISO 100
even if i use a photo editor to sharpen it. it wont still come out sharp. why? bec. it's a blur shot. The ffg are the possible reason why it got blur.
- insects moves
- me and my camera moves
- winds
Here are the ffg setting or ways to minimized blur. This is what i do and learned from my experiance. handheld
- try to wait for the insect to stay still and wait for the wind to stop and stay still shooting. easier said than done :(
- try using a faster shutter speed. maybe 1/250s ~ 1/400s
- use an external flash
- use auto iso ( but i still suggest iso 100 only )
You really need to time your shot. wait for the subject to stay still and be ready to click!
most of the time our dslr and lens has best setting. if we adjust it. it will reduce the photo's quality. it's better thou that getting a blur shot.
External flash makes the photo harsh. faster shutter speed reduces the details and exposure. adjusting them has disadvantages.
I did all the suggested ways, but i still get blur shots.
I did a research and found out about the AF-ON feature. I tried it for a month and it's not easy. but after getting used to it. i found out i get 75% chance of not getting blur shots. since then i always use AF-ON on macro and telephoto shots.
What is AF-ON. It's the same as pressing the shutter release half way to focus. You will need you thumb for focusing and the pointing finger for the final shot. It's help me get better result on moving subjects.
Am sure most or all DSLR have AF-ON. try it. I was able to shoot flying insect bec. of AF-ON. trust me, it works.
With practice you will be able to have a better rate of getting a better photo. and will have spare time to compose the shot.
Thou in macro. i dont think we need to compose. But it's nice to experiment and explore possibilities.
Study or check your gear features. Use it. the default settings are okay but to get more better and creative shots you really need to use M mode and adjust settings. Like the focus area. i use SPOT. setting seems to be complicated. but once you get used to it. it's easy.
One example is lens. my 60mm f2.8D nikkor. it only has few buttons. AF or M and focal limit buttons. i dont use the focal limit button before. but now i learn how to use it properly. it can limit focus distance. like if i set it full it will focus from 50mm to infinity. but if i set LIMIT. it will only focus maybe 50mm to 75mm from subject. doing that i am sure i am near the 1:1 ratio and it's the closest my lens can do. and that also tells me i should use f13 to f29. to get a wider focus area result.
Imagine only 2 to 3 buttons and i not bothered to use it before. They are put there for a purpose. to make shooting easier :)
DLSR and lens manufacturer makes sure it's easy to adjust setting. Just try to understand those setting.
Shooting should be easy and fun. otherwise we get lazy.
any comments and question i will try to respond. Thou if you got a high end gear. i think you just need to shoot more. :) and it will produce great result 100%
Hope this tips and info helps you guys :)
