Some time ago, me and my wife visited one of the tourist attractions in Aceh Besar. Upon arrival at Kreung Raya area, my wife asked me to stop our motorcycle.
"Please took photo the port of Malahayati from here, looking beautiful when viewed from above," she said.
We stand on a hill about 1000 feet above sea level.
After looking at some angle of shooting, I immediately took out the camera. And what my wife says is true, Malahayati's port looks more beautiful.
From the top of the hill, we could see the harbor area, residential area and fishing boats.
Before the tsunami, Malahayati Port was used as a transportation hub from Banda Aceh-Sabang and vice versa. However, after passenger ports were diverted to Ulee Lheu, after the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the disaster, Malahayati port only serves ships carrying industrial and agricultural goods.
Malahayati Port is located in Kreung Raya, Aceh Besar. Distance from Banda Aceh city center about 45 minutes, by motorcycle.
Malahayati is taken from the name of the heroine of Aceh, who is famous for heroic against the Dutch colonial past, Admiral Malahayati. She is heads thousands of “Inong Balee” soldiers or widows of heroes who have been syahid.
Malahayati is the world’s first women’s naval warlord. Due to the courage of Malahayati, the warships and Dutch fortress could be destroyed.
