Hey dear Hive community, I wish you a nice Friday and a pleasant start to the new weekend, hopefully you will have nice experiences and meet people you like! Today I would like to present you a plant and hope you can expand your knowledge a little!
You can see here Buckhorn which is also scientifically called Plantago lanceolata and it is a great medical plant, below I will go into more detail. It is a perennial plant that has its origin in Europe and usually grows inconspicuous on meadows or fields. Plantago lanceolata prefers sunny locations and can grow up to half a meter high and the flowering period ranges from May to September. In places where the conditions are good, plantain is widespread and one of the most common wild plants in general.
Now I would like to talk about the healing effect, which has actually been appreciated since the Stone Age. Even the old Germanics and other Nordic cultures also used and appreciated the antibacterial properties very much. One of the main active ingredients is Aucubin which is also considered a natural antibiotic, but is lost due to incorrect drying or storage. It can also be helpful against lung diseases, but the field of application is diverse and it can also have an antioxidant effect, also help acutely against small wounds or insect bites.
If I may give a little tip, for example, if you are in nature and were bitten by an insect, you can make a bandage out of the leaves and wrap it around the wound. You can also squeeze the leaves and rub the juice to the wounded places, you can also make a good tea or soup from it! In order to go back to the medical effect, it is of course, as always important to ask your doctor or pharmacist of trust about the correct application, dosage and possible side effects!
Mythologically Buckhorn also has a long history and has been associated with the underworld by many cultures. The ancient Germanics believed that the plant embodies the reappeared souls from the underworld and also in ancient Greece and Rome it was connected to the underworld. It is also connected to the three planets Saturn, Mercury and Moon and people saw in the plant the power of these planets, often it is also seen as a plant that is strongly connected to Mercury.
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you like my new contribution! I used my camera Sony Alpha 6000 and Sony SEL-55210 Telephoto Zoom Lens (55-210mm) to take these pictures.
