Good day dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you were able to have one or the other positive experience today! In this post, I would like to go into a historical topic in more detail and hope you can learn something new.
Different coats of arms can be seen here and the origins of coats of arms can be found in the period between the 11th and 13th Century in Europe. At that time, shields produced by the blacksmiths were painted and it served as a identification mark in fights between two enemies to better distinguish them among themselves. Clearly recognizable colors and symbols were used and therefore the term coat of arms is also derived from weapons because it originally dates back to wartimes. The term heraldry derives from the heralds who were known at that time as experts under the coats of arms and continued the teaching behind it and the tasks of the herald was also to be a messenger or to take care of the organization of the coats of arms.
The next stage of heraldry was in the 14th century and it was considered a distinctive sign in knight tournaments and these coats of arms were then also transferred to entire families. Over time, coats of arms were also increasingly used in the economic sector and by private persons and coats of arms were also officially awarded with letters. More and more cities also made use of heraldry and created some coats of arms and this also resulted in a big business to distinguish others. In the 15th century this system developed more and more symbols were used in the coat of arms and in addition many legends and symbolism were associated with it.
Towards the end of the Middle Ages, heraldry has moved very far into the background and almost extinct until in the 19th century societies have formed to continue the topic. The first coats of arms of that time were probably created in England and France and the flags and robes were also provided with the coats of arms at that time. In the meantime, it has become a popular topic again and a major research branch has formed to explore the history behind coats of arms and numerous books have also been written on the topic and it is of course also possible to create own coat of arms and enter it in a register.
