Lü Dongbin was also considered a wise personality who has always cam to new knowledge and he has also dealt strongly with the teachings of alchemy and it is assumed that he has dealt particularly with the spiritual side of alchemy and in the course of his life has experienced a spiritual transformation that has helped him to achieve immortality and and it is said to have succeeded in getting to the golden elixir which according to Daoism also had the ability to give immortality and was one of the main goals of the Chinese alchemists. It is not an elixir which one could prepare and according to legends everyone already has this elixir in him and through the path of spiritual development, it is possible to unfold it and reverse the ageing process or become immortal and according to this philosophy it is possible to achieve this goal on a spiritual level and the way of Lü Dongbin inspired various Chinese alchemists to deal more closely with this teaching which is also called Neidan.
He even became a patron saint of alchemy and the legends about him vary and in different regions there were different views about him and it is even suspected that he himself could have taught others at certain times and helped others to immortality, but there are too few traditions in this regard and is considered today as a figure of mythology with important connections to alchemy. In his young years, he was also considered a scholar and can be compared to an adept from European alchemy and he became more and more a great alchemist who was appreciated for his wisdom and achieved even the status of a god and he was also considered the author of numerous mystical works and it is even said to have succeeded in turning metals into gold and also in other areas of alchemy such as the production of medicine, he was a master.
