I woke up sweating, wondering why the fan is turned off. It’s a nice fan, my trusty old computer fan, so it shouldn’t fail me while I sleep. Plucking it out and back in the outlet, nothing. Flip the light switch, nothing. Next one, nothing. Shit. Check the circuit breakers, all seems to be fine there. Check the elevator, only an emergency light is on. Fuck.
It’s scolding hot in the city and all the power is cut off from the whole block. Someone fucked up with an excavator in the construction site next door.
I love hot, but I’m melting, the freezer will soon start melting too. There is precious moose meat in there, don’t want it to get spoiled. The beer in the fridge is still cold, better not waste it.
Cold shower, that cooled me down for all of five minutes.
At least the wireless connection works and I can get some work done. Fast forward to my battery being at 3 percent, lifeline dwindling. Goodbye cruel world in 3, 2….
The fan just turned on, woosh, we are back in business. What a tragical five hours it has been. First world problems for sure.
Me by me with the Nikon D7200 and Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8.
It’s pathetic how vulnerable we are, and I don’t like the feeling. Power outages in the winter time are normal in the countryside, but power hardly even goes out in the city, especially not in the summertime. At least in the homehome we have our own generator for emergency power. In the city I’m completely dependent on people I don’t know. Trust issues anyone?
This is how wars start, first it’s a few power outages here and there, then the internet starts to slow down and cut off more and more. If Russia wanted to invade Finland, all they would have to do is shut the gas lines in the dead of winter and in two weeks, we’d be ready to surrender what ever demands they have. Self sufficiency is only a distant memory for this country.
I always keep my electronics powered and have spare batteries, and I have canned food to last me for weeks. I have cash, a passport and getaway bags always packed and ready to bug out. Though I don’t have a getaway car or guns, need seriously work on getting those. Oopsie, this turned dark real fast. This is how my brain works, quite dramatic at times. We are fine, let’s get back to the day to day life. I hope you enjoyed this.
