As I am getting super excited about my upcoming trip to London, I went to dig around to see if I could find pictures from my previous London trip, in September of 2013.
Back then I was photographing with the Nikon D60 and almost exclusively with the Nikkor kit lens 18-55mm, and I shot only in jpeg, hadn't found the wonders of RAW yet. These pictures are all unedited, straight from the camera. My goal with photography is always to get the best possible results without having to rely on Photoshop, but because I shoot exclusively in RAW these days, it's a bit different as the images are never ready to use right from the camera.
You won't find much of the basic tourist photos in this set, because that is not what I like to do, I don't get excited taking the same shot as millions of tourist every year.
The first picture is the most boring one and I know I took it more of like hey, this is London, that is Big Ben and yeah, we were there. Shitty picture, so flat, let's move on.
There are a lot of street artists around the most touristy parts of London and it's fun to watch the interactions between them and tourists. I do like this image, but its lacking that final OOMPH factor, sure I could do something to it with Photoshop to make it pop more.
I really like the composition of this image of the bridge leading to Tate Modern and looking towards Saint Paul's Cathedral. I don't actually think I would change much if I were to take it again. Though of course I now have a lot better gear, and maybe I would go in early morning or late night to get nicer light.
That skinny bitch in the picture is my little sister, who I took to London. We spend a considerable amount of time walking in the bottom of river Thames, I know, we are weirdos. But for the actual picture, I do like it, a bit of nice composition under a pier and adding my travel buddy to make memories last better.
Cool graffiti and colours on a skatepark, nothing that special. Would work well on instagram feed. I have a better portrait of my sis but I want to protects her privacy.
Royal blue is my favourite colour, and playing with light and shadows is always fun. Nothing more to add.
This is probably my favourite picture, there is something about the night light and the old school cab that I really like. I remember standing in the middle of the road and being excited to take this picture. I wouldn't change a thing, but it would be nice to have it in RAW so I could bring out a little more detail.
I had to get a basic double decker bus on one picture too. I think this is taken somewhere next to the Hyde Park. Once again, which it was in RAW so I could bring out more detail and the composition could be better.
Nothing special to this, but one had to capture some of the iconic things.
So, I like the idea behind this photo, but it could be improved a lot. I do have to admit, I remember that I stole the idea from my sister, so can't take credit for that one.
