A photo walk with no set destination in mind is how I came upon this family of Florida Sandhill Cranes. I saw them while driving along and they allowed me to grab some shots.
The Sandhill Crane can be found in North America and parts of Siberia. The Florida Sandhill Crane is unique however, in that it is non-migratory. I mean, they live where other birds just vacation, so why leave?
Sandhill Cranes mainly eat herbs but do eat small reptiles and insects as well. They average 80-136cm (2ft. 7in - 4ft 6in) in height with a wingspan ranging from 1.65m-2.3m (5ft 5in- 7ft 7in).
They can be found in pairs or with a small family like I stumbled upon this day. When flying or on the ground, they can be quite vocal.
Thanks for tuning in everyone.
