Portland Plants 5:
Earlier in the week, the sun showed its face for a few hours. I hopped into my car and went to a different neighborhood in search of funky looking plants. My search was successful and I found quite a few plants of varying degrees of funkiness.
I'm really loving these excursions. Normally, I don't pay much attention to the plants that I see every day, but with a camera in hand, I have to pay special attention. I particularly enjoy the budding plants, even if the photos aren't as impressive as the flower photos. To me, the buds kind of represent a struggle for life, reproduction, and rebirth.
Here are some of the photos from my latest outing. I hope you enjoy.
This was just a small patch of flowers that didn't look very impressive until I got closer.
These were some cool looking flowers. I found another one of these plants and it was 2 or 3 times the size of this one.
I'm pretty sure this is the same type of pant as the one above.
This plant (the 3 photos above) was actually in someone's backyard and these photos are of the parts that grew higher than the fence.
At first I thought this was just a plant with yellow leaves. It took a closer look to realize that it covered in flowers.
I spotted several of these plants. Some of them are pretty big.
These plants are fairly common in this area. I liked the coloring of this one. I love the candy-stripes on the flowers.
Now this is a funky plant! If the photo looks confusing, don't worry about it. This plant was very confusing in person.
I'm pretty sure this is a Japanese Maple.
More buds! I have no idea what kind of plant this is.
Just liked the two different colors of this flower growing next to each other.
This was a tiny little plant with multiple colored flowers. Unfortunately, I didn't get a very good photo of it.
I almost missed these little blue flowers. This plant was also very small.
The whole plant was about the size of my hand.
Last but not least, we have some Cherry Blossoms. You'll see these trees are all over the place in Portland. I wish I could get a better photo of the whole tree, but the shallow depth of field on my lens makes all of the wider shots look very flat.
I saw a few of these smaller, white trees. I don't know if they're kept small, or if they are just a smaller tree.
That does it for this post. I'm looking forward to seeing the sun again so I can get more photos. Next time you're out and about, spend a few seconds to get some close-up looks at the beauty that surrounds you.
