One of the subjects I enjoy photographing is modern architecture. It offers a different kind of appeal compared to natural subjects like plants, forests, or mountains. While the two are not directly comparable, each has its own distinct beauty. It all comes down to one’s perception—some people are only interested in familiar subjects, but modern structures can also make compelling photography subjects, especially when captured well. The right angle and lighting can result in a photo that’s even more striking than expected.
For me, the modern architectural elements that often make me stop and take a photo are staircases and skylights.
Staircases appear dynamic in photos because of the movement they imply—people going up and down, sometimes rushing to their destinations. They can become crowded, especially in busy areas, which adds another layer of interest to the image.
In this particular photo, I took the time to capture a few shots of a staircase illuminated by a skylight above it.
The skylight above the staircase has transformed this space into a more captivating area, thanks to the natural light pouring in. Spaces with dramatic lighting like this tend to look stunning in photos—which is why I took quite a few shots of it.
Capturing moments like these reminds me that beauty can be found in the everyday—if we just take the time to look. Whether it's nature or architecture, there's always a story waiting to be told through the lens.
