Hello everybody!
It's been while since my last post. Now that I'm visiting Colombia I have the time to share some images with you. I will start with the beautiful Guatavita lake.
Some people say that this small lake is the origin of the ElDorado legend. As part of the ceremony to become the tribe chief (caciques) the new cacique washed his body (covered in gold powder) in the lake while his people threw in different "golden"artifacts to the lake. When Spaniards and others heard of that they tried to drain the lake in different ways. The most effective one was to excavate a 30 m hole in the mountain (that can be seen in the second picture). That's the reason why water doesn't fill completely the space.
All of the different endeavors were an economic failure in part because the gold that was recovered was not pure, it was an alloy of gold and cooper called tumbaga.
Hope it was interesting. Happy Holidays!
