In November 2017 the classic Marathon was held in Athens. A road race, an endurance race that covers 42,195 km -26,219 miles- and is included in the modern Olympic sports. The Marathon road race is thus named after the historical journey of the Athenian soldier, Pheidippides, who, after the battle of Marathon (490 BC), ran from the battlefield to Athens to convey the winning news with the word "ΝΕΝΙΚΗΚΑΜΕΝ" (we won). The historical accuracy of this fact is confirmed by Philostratus, referring to the institution of messenger soldiers, also by Herodotus, Plutarch, and Lucian. The modern Marathon organized by the city of Athens involves simple citizens, women, and men regardless of age. A few thousand people from Greece and almost every country of the world participate in this sporting event each time. Most are reaching the finish line at the Panathenaic Stadium where the firsts are awarded. I took a series of photos that day in November 2017 and I publish here this one, which is among my favorite. Later I 'll publish more photos from this memorable day. My best friend has participated and was among the first arrived at the finish line (not the first one but among the 100 first athletes). This photo has already been published in 2017 in my Instagram account. I am very happy to share this photo with you and as always I hope you like it!!! Have a nice weekend!!!
