This is a shot I took of the "Stone of Hope" statue in Washington D.C.
The statue is of Civil Rights Activist and minister Martin Luther King, Jr., located in West Potomac Park, which is right by the National Mall. Ths statue is part of the MLK memorial that was opened in 2011.
Though MLK is honored every day at the Lincoln Memorial, as they play his "I have a Dream" speech frequently throughout the day for it was the site of his speech, it was still nice they created a spot all to himself to honor him.
There are not many men that have had as much of an effect on society than Martin Luther King Jr. He headed the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's, marched with thousands to Selma (with the SCLC) to protest for voter's rights and stood for justice and equality for all. Unfortunately, he was assassinated for it, but his messages of hope and peaceful protesting will linger throughout time.
His message is one I wish would resonate not only throughout the present USA, but the world as a whole. We are all in this together and I truly hope his "Dream" one day will come true.
