This afternoon, I was able to capture some macro shots of a wasp on a leaf with the sun casting a shadow of the wasp on the leaf. All shots were taken using a Canon 80D camera with a 75 - 300 mm lens.
In photography, you can have multiple different types of shadows, which can enhance a photo to a different level. You can have shadows with soft lighting (what is seen in the first two photos) where you have soft edges on the shadow, yet you can still make out the shape of the main object from the shadow.
You can have hard lighting (like the photo above) which gives the shadow distinct, crisp edges and it almost mirrors the subject perfectly.
While there are many more types of shadow photography, for example silhouette photography (I have used that in previous posts) shadow photography can do wonders for your shots. It can take what appears to be a flat image and make it look three dimensional.
