As science tells us more and more about how our brain is wired to make us feel the way we feel - it leads us to interesting reasons behind why we behave the way we behave. To an artist - beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, to an evolutionary biologist, beauty might be simply what helps you survive.

Among the many speculations that scientists make behind the reasoning for humans liking sunsets, here is my top pick:
Warm (red/orange) sunset skies are reminiscent of the clear open savannah landscapes with sparsely placed trees. Night time being the most dangerous time, a warm orange sunset sky would have been the day's last call for safety. As per biologists, this phase of about 75,000 yrs in the chain of evolution, was about the time that homo erectus was developing a sense of aesthetics.
