Hey, Steemit! Pleasant night, isn’t it? I hope most of you have recovered from the recent market correction bloodshed. I’ve been surprisingly calm during all this madness. This morning, the gang and I celebrated at Gorkha Palace, our favorite Indian, Tibetan, Nepali eatery. The evening, I saw some good fortune at the Apple Store, expecting to pay $400 to replace
’s iPad Pro for a cracked screen. It conveniently turned out to be a cracked screen protector. Ending the night, I got my mom,
, hooked on Cryptokitties. She just adopted my entire breeding litter.
Tonight’s photography comes from NOIR, all the way back in 2015. It was the very first NOIR event, back before it turned in to a brand that was held from coast to coast. The photos are of a beautiful, talented musician/model named Tea Simpson. This was my first time meeting or shooting with Tea, but she’s a notorious name in the Twin Cities. Also, this is the first time these photos have been seen in color. Steemit exclusive!
Tea Simpson is the lead vocalist in the all female surf rock band, L'Assassins. Anyone under 40 in Minneapolis knows of Tea and the band. It was an honor to have a chance to shoot with her and with the inaugural NOIR sessions, it seemed like the best possible time to showcase what the event was intended to be. I know a lot of people were going to see these photos of Tea.
There’s always a tremendous amount of pressure when shooting someone that’s that paying for your time, especially when you’re well aware they’ve never had to pay for a shoot in their lives. I knew this was the case with Tea. I’d seen the L'Assassins videos circulating social media years before this very important shoot. It’s the part of my DNA that triggers “fight or flight”, that knows I need to step up my game. Those moments are always the catalyst for reaching the next level, professionally.
I’d consider this shoot one of those occasions. I felt “on”, my creativity was surging. There was genuinely a bit of an artist high, which couldn’t have come at a better time considering Tea was the first of a sold out weekend of NOIR shoots. She was a dream to work with. Took wonderful direction and we managed to create striking images in our brief, 30 minute session.
