Le Louvre is located on the side of the river La Seine that split Paris in two, in the first district. The pyramid was achieved on the 30 Mars 1989, it's designed by the sino-american architect Leoh Ming Pei.
The pyramid is part (by a few degrees) of the Axe historique It fit on the axis of the business district, l'Arc de Triomphe, les Champs Elysée. Those monuments draw a line across Paris, that allows you to see all of them aligned.
The "great pyramid" is not alone, she is surrounded by 3 replicas acting as skylights, and the inverted pyramid on La place du carousel, that is buried, pointing down.
