Hello Hiveians. I have recently started the process of upgrading my camera and the first bit of kit to show up is the Nikon Nifty Fifty. (at least from what I can tell this is the Nikon equivalent of Canon's Nifty Fifty, one of the most popular 50mm lenses) Sadly, I do not have the new camera to show you yet. For reasons I will explain below.
Nikon has named this lens the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D. A yummy mouthful that is going to take you to flavour town! Okay, that's a weird analogy, but it's my way of saying this lens is reported to be extremely sharp for how cheap it is. I think mine was around $175 Canadian. You can thank that cheap price on its inability to zoom. The Nifty Fifty is dead simple for lens manufacturers to make, allowing them to pass on great optics for your camera at a great price for your budget. It is highly recommended as the first - second lens you should buy when you pick up your first DSLR Kit lens camera.
Why don't I have a camera yet? Well, shipping, duh! But more important to that, I opted to go with Nikon's last-gen D7200 over the newer D7500 and the company that I ordered the D7200 from didn't have it in stock. They tried to upsell me to the D7500 with no kit lens and tried to call it a "free upgrade" which is rich, considering the camera with no lens is $500 cheaper than the D7200 with kit lens that I ordered. Doubly amusing is that on their website the D7200 is still listed as in-stock, while the D7500 body is listed as out of stock. Oh brother!
