Not all Inukshuks are elaborate monoliths. Most of these landmarks are nothing more than a few small stones stacked atop each other. With a few well placed pebbles to balance them and help them stay standing throughout the harsh arctic winters. Winds blow at 100 km/h regularly, yet these stones stand, guiding the way.
The Inukshuks in these photos are marking a trail so that it can be cleared of snow and used in the winter time to help get people out to their cabins on the far edges of the island.
I can see the art of stacking stones to be a meditative practice as well. It requires patience, perseverance and focus. Another aspect of the Inuit people that strikes me as something more than it appears.
All photos are my own, taken by myself. They are taken using a Nikon P900 and a Samsung S20. Consider checking out my website, Midnight Sunsets. I'm also on Twitter and Instagram!
